AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine has been suspended in certain European countries
Few countries in the European Union have suspended use of a specific batch of the AstraZeneca vaccine which are distributed in the EU, as there were symptoms of rare blood coagulation disorders in persons. They decided this as a precaution until a full investigation is going on.
It is very important to note that European Medicines Agency’s pharmacovigilance Risk Assessment Committee position has clarified that the vaccine’s benefits continue to outweigh its risks and it can be continued until investigation of cases of thromboembolic events is under process.
WHO’s Global Advisory Committee on Vaccine Safety reviews systematically on any signals and concerns which are related to COVID-19 vaccine safety, and place a meeting in every two weeks to consult WHO on any such updates related to COVID-19 vaccines. They are also carefully assessing present reports of the Astra Zeneca vaccine. Research and changes to current recommendations will be immediately released to the public as soon as WHO has full understanding of these events.
Vaccination against COVID-19 will not have any effects on the deaths from other causes, and they will continue to occur even after vaccination and are totally unrelated.
Around 268 million COVID-19 vaccines have been distributed so far, and no cases of death have been found yet.
